Large corporations in Europe, USA, and Sydney are now looking to cut operating costs by outsourcing some of their processes, from high cost to low cost countries such as India, China, and the Philippines.

Some of the processes currently being outsourced range from call centers, to customer service, to telemarketing, to financial accounting, to programming, to design and so on. Distance is no longer an issue as WAN telecommunication lines and software technology such a Citrix allow users in low cost countries to access applications in data centers located in the corporation's IT hubs and data centers.

Business process outsourcing or BPO is controversial, as jobs are lost from high cost countries and are transferred to low cost countries such as India and the Philippines.
