Good Laptops… IBM, Dell or ToshibaI used to recommend IBM ThinkPad laptops because of my good experience with them. As an IT manager, I used to buy IBM ThinkPads as the company standard laptop. However, that was around 1999. Today, 2005, I have to change my recommendation. With several broken IBM laptops, the new company I worked for now uses Dell laptops as the standard. So far so good, although there are some failures such as a battery that went dead after only 18 months. Unfortunately the warranty was only 12 months. Personally, I am still using a Toshiba 660CDT which I bought second hand a couple of years ago. Surprisingly the battery is still good and it is the laptop I'm using to write this article. I guess old laptops were built to last, while some of the newer laptops are disposable? So if I were to buy a new laptop, it would be a toss up between a Dell or Toshiba. More info...
