OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE
Open Source software has lead to the development of
free and easy to use software that is now challenging Microsoft and other
licensed software.
Here is a list of Open Source Software and their major benefits.
Red Hat Linux
Can be used as a server or desktop operating system. It is graphical based and
easy to use. This is an inexpensive alternative to Microsoft Windows 98, ME, or
XP.
OpenOffice
Allows you to create documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and save them in
Microsoft Office compatible format. You can even save the files as Adobe PDF
format. This is the inexpensive alternative to Microsoft Office and Office XP.
GIMP
This is a free software to do image manipulation. It can be a good substitute
for PhotoShop.
MR Project
This is a free software for project management, and can be a substitute for MS
Project.
GNU Cash
This is a free personal and small business financial software that can be a
substitute for Quicken. Use it to keep track of your checkbook, cash and credit
card purchases, monitor assets and loans, and plan for taxes, mortgage and other
needs.
These are just some of the free Open Source software available today, more
than enough for a small business.
